The Rising Star Award is presented biennially to recognize an independent school advancement professional, new to fundraising/advancement as well as the independent school industry, who has accomplished incredible things through their dedication and commitment to their school, the profession and CAISAP.

Qualifications

To qualify, nominees must have

  • fewer than five years experience in an advancement capacity at one or more CAIS schools, and the fundraising profession.
  • made significant, measurable contributions to the advancement operation.
  • contributed in a volunteer capacity to the advancement profession, preferably though not necessarily in the independent school sector.
  • demonstrated an interest in acquiring more knowledge about advancement in independent schools through professional development.


Nominations

Nominations for the 2011 Rising Star Awards must be received by December 1st, 2010.

Nominations should be no more than one page in length and should contain

  • a nominating statement of about 500 words, describing the nominator's association with the nominee.
  • an outline of the contributions that the nominee has made to the nominating school(s).
  • a description of any professional development undertaken during the period of employment.
  • a resume and other background information detailing the nominee's work and volunteer experience in advancement. 
* It is important to note, the Rising Star should be new to the advancement/fundraising profession, in addition to a CAISAP school.

The nomination material should also show evidence of the nominee’s exemplary level of leadership in and commitment to the profession.

Nominations should be sent by email to info@caisap.ca or to Lori Adam, St. Michaels University School, no later than December 1, 2010. Nominations shall be reviewed, and the recipients chosen, by a committee chaired by a member of the CAISAP executive, comprising the president and one additional member of CAISAP.

Please note that nominations can only be made by CAISAP members. 

Selection Process

The process of selection shall be treated with the utmost discretion throughout. The Committee Chair shall send copies of nomination letters and citations to be distributed to members of the awards committee, who will then consult and decide upon the selection of nominees. The chair of the committee shall convey the decision of the committee to nominees and their nominators prior to the CAISAP Conference. In the case of unsuccessful nominations, the Chair shall also convey to the nominees and the decision of the committee shall be conclusive.

Presentation

The Rising Star Award will be presentated biennially at the CAISAP National Conference. Winners are strongly encouraged to be present to accept their award.  As CAISAP is a volunteer organization, each winner is expected to provide his or her own lodging, travel expenses, and conference registration fees. Nominators will be informed of the selection results; however, it is preferable to keep the recipients a surprise for the conference.
